AboutThese works were created in some combination of Ultrafractal, Apophysis, and Paint Shop Pro. The technique I used for most of them was to choose a combination of formula and coloring algorithm from Ultrafractal's public formula database that give an interesting result and then create multiple layers of the fractal, varying the parameters of both the formula and coloring algorithm as well as the gradient and blend mode as I go. Eventually I'll get to a point where I have a base image that I like or (as often as not) I decide it's not going anywhere and I start over. Once I have a base image to work with I render it to a fairly large png (5000-7000 pixels on a side) so I can work with it further in PSP. Often out of an Ultrafractal session I'll wind up with a handful of base images that are promising, all variations on each other. Once the renders are done (normally several hours or even a couple of days later), I pull the image into PSP. In some rare cases the image doesn't call for any work and I'll simply add a border and signature. In most cases though, I'll create multiple layers of the image in PSP, applying different filters and blend modes to each layer. The result can be either very subtly different than the base image from Ultrafractal or it can be almost unrecognizably different. |
